BOOK NOWBACU PADENTE
ABSEILING ON A THIN AND PANORAMIC RIDGE ABOVE THE SEA
The descent of the canyon Bacu Padente, instead of the riverbed, takes place on a thin and panoramic ridge overlooking the canyon and the sea. It is a series of six abseils as high as 30 metres and a passage into a small cave leading to the ridge's opposite side. This may sound very unusual for a canyoning tour and, in effect, Bacu Padente can hardly fit the canyoning category as it has no water. Call it just abseiling, and we are on track.
Suspended on a narrow ledge, we will walk and abseil the crests of Bacu Padente from 200 metres above sea level down to the water. The view from the 6 abseils on Bacu Padente embraces the whole Gulf of Orosei with peaks over the little cove Piscine di Venere with its crystal-clear water.
And if the canyoning and caving adventure wasn’t enough, at the end of the abseils it is also possible to make an acrobatic detour to a guided tour on the Grotta del Fico. This is a large cave open to tourists during the summer only.

Approach and way back
Our meeting point is in front of the little Church of San Pietro, on the Golgo plateau.
From here we will continue for 7.4 km on the dirt road that leads to Cala Sisine. The road can be navigated by any car with decent ground clearance (at least 11 cm) and careful driving to avoid bumps, holes, and scattered stones.
Once we reach the starting point of the trail to Bacu Padente, we will walk for about 30 minutes to reach the beginning of the first descent, from where unparalleled views and emotions will open up.
The return walk begins with a short but very steep climb and some easy climbing passages. From here we will connect to the Selvaggio Blu trail and follow a mule track that crosses the dense holm oak forest, bringing us back to the starting point (1 hour in total).
KIT LIST - what do I need?
To participate in the Bacu Padente canyoning tour, it is necessary to have:
- Hiking boots
- A backpack of at least 30 litres
- Helmet, harness, and via ferrata set (available for rent)
- Water and a packed lunch
You should wear mountain or approach shoes, and comfortable, season-appropriate clothing.
Essential items include 2 litres of water per person and a packed lunch. Each participant must also have a backpack to carry water, food, and the equipment that will be provided to you.
Is it possible to visit the Grotta del Fico?
Yes, of course. The Grotta del Fico is managed by a local company and opens during the summer season. The entry ticket costs €10 and the visit lasts about 30 minutes.
How difficult is the Canyon Bacu Padente?
This canyoning tour is not very difficult but is still an adventurous itinerary where it is necessary to be in good physical shape. You should be able to walk on very steep and uneven paths, screens and loose rocks.
In addition, there are also some passages where it is necessary to scramble and climb on rocks.
The approach path is very short, lasting about 20 minutes. The rest of the itinerary includes a series of abseils on double-rope, one after the other.
The return path takes 1 hour walking on a steep path. It is very uneven and includes climbing on leaning rocks. The total vertical gain is 280 meters.
To avoid the return path it is possible to organize a boat transfer to the port of Santa Maria Navarrese. Read all info on the next tab.
Boat return
We can also organize a return transfer by boat, whether or not we visit the Grotta del Fico.
The itinerary of the canyoning Bacu Padente ends on the rocky coastline, from where a boat can pick us up and take us back to the port of Santa Maria Navarrese. The boat transfer is usually operated on dinghy boats and lasts about 1 hour.
Apart from being an easy way to get back, and avoiding the steep return path, the boat transfer will allow us to admire the beautiful cliffs of this famous coastline.
In case you’d like to have a return transfer by boat, our meeting point will be at the port of Santa Maria Navarrese, where a transfer will take us to the starting point of our canyoning adventure. This initial transfer takes about 1 hour.
THE COST OF BOTH TRANSFERS, FROM AND TO SANTA MARIA NAVARRESE, IS NOT INCLUDED IN OUR PRICE. It should be paid separately to the company that manages the boats. We will find the cheapest price and book the transfer for the group.
