VIA FERRATA DEGLI ANGELI

Via Ferrata degli Angeli

The Via Ferrata degli Angeli runs on the southern ridge of the island of Tavolara, from the sea straight to the top. It is divided into various sections, for a total ascent of about 600 metres, half of which protected by a steel cable.

From the beginning to the end, the Via Ferrata degli Angeli reveals a truly unique scenario, presenting a 360° view over the coast of northern Sardinia and the many islands that are scattered around it.

There’s no other via Ferrata like it, combining a mountaineering adventure and wide panoramas over the Mediterranean Sea.

Don’t underestimate the difficulty of this Via Ferrata though… It is fairly hard, and all participants must be able to walk on steep and uneven terrain, scramble and climb on vertical sections of rock. Furthermore, as it is exposed south, the heath makes it unfeasible from June to October. In alternative, during these months we run the Via Ferrata Normale, which is much easier and runs on the northern and shady side of Tavolara.

Two-thirds of the way up, the steel cable ends on easier terrain, where the group can walk 20 minutes to reach an anchoring point and abseil back down. These are two consecutive abseils of 55 and 35 metres of height. Quite exciting and panoramic! From the bottom of the abseils, a path takes back to the beach (1-hour walk).

Instead of the abseils, it is possible to continue walking to the very top of Tavolara (560 m asl) and descend the Via Ferrata Normale, which connects to the steep path that leads back to the beach (2 hours walk)
